Standing tall next to Sendai Station is the AER Building, giving the opportunity to see Sendai from its free observation deck on the 31st floor. The building itself is home to many shops like UNIQLO, Maruzen, various restaurants as well as offices.
Entering the building, head to the left where you’ll find the elevators. Some of them don’t go to the 31st floor though. On the 31st floor there is a large window with a grand view of Sendai, but that’s not all. On the both ends of the floor there are observation decks. One deck faces north-west while the other faces south-east.
The grand view opens up with the ocean of Sendai Bay and the numerous ships anchored there. In the northern part of Sendai, the large figure of a Kannon statue standing over the city is quite noticeable. You can also watch the trains and shinkansen arriving and departing from Sendai Station. The view is good during the daytime and also at night with thousands of city lights.
One of my favorite things is observing a city or nature from high above as it can give a full panoramic of a place. Perhaps it's yours too?
Getting there
The AER Building is next to Sendai Station's West Exit.
