Pokémon fans planning a trip to Japan now have a new reason to visit Sendai. OF HOTEL in Miyagi Prefecture has launched a special collaboration with Lapras, the beloved Pokémon that serves as Miyagi’s official supporting Pokémon, transforming a hotel stay into a journey through the region’s coastal culture, scenery, and creativity.
Titled “Traveling Through Miyagi with Lapras,” the collaboration reimagines the hotel experience by weaving together themed accommodation, local artwork, and regional souvenirs. The project draws inspiration from Lapras’ role as a gentle sea-travelling Pokémon, connecting it with Miyagi’s deep relationship with the ocean and its stunning coastal landscapes.
Guests can stay in one of two specially designed Lapras collaboration rooms, where ocean-inspired colors and flowing design elements evoke the feeling of travelling alongside the Pokémon across Miyagi’s waters. The experience extends beyond the guest rooms, with a dedicated collaboration floor featuring a striking 14-meter wall artwork depicting famous Miyagi scenery, including Matsushima, alongside Lapras.
The artwork was created in partnership with Miyagi-born illustrator Momo Kamei, reflecting OF HOTEL’s ongoing commitment to working with local artists and showcasing the creativity of the Tohoku region.
Visitors can also browse a selection of Miyagi and Lapras collaboration merchandise in the hotel’s ground-floor shop. Alongside Pokémon-themed souvenirs, the store highlights local crafts and products, encouraging travelers to discover more of the prefecture’s culture and traditions.
The collaboration arrives as Miyagi continues to strengthen its tourism appeal through Pokémon-themed attractions. Lapras has served as Miyagi’s supporting Pokémon since 2019 and has become a familiar ambassador for the prefecture through tourism campaigns, special events, and Pokémon-themed landmarks.
