The Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale is a popular event held every three years during summertime, and it originally started in 2000 as a way to promote regional revitalization. Contemporary artworks from both international and domestic creators are integrated with the local environment and community, providing an immersive experience in the Niigata countryside.
This year, a precursor event is being held – the Echigo-Tsumari Winter Art Festival – and it will be taking place on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from January 13th until March 10th. It's set to include special exhibitions, snow play activities, and fun food-based experiences like toasting marshmallows.
Tickets are priced at 2000 JPY for adults, and 800 JPY for elementary and junior high school students. The tickets include admission to a number of venues, including the Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Contemporary Art Museum MonET and the Matsudai Nobutai Field Museum to name just a couple.
