Boasting the highest concentration of hot springs in Japan, it's hardly surprising that the coastal city of Beppu in Oita Prefecture has earned the reputation as being the place to come for anyone wanting to seek a part of the quintessential hot spring experience.
Resting on one of the world’s most active geothermal regions, Beppu has been attracting visitors for countless centuries who come here to enjoy the therapeutic properties and health benefits associated with taking a hot spring.
Although its hot springs do form a key part of this city, it can sometimes be easy to forget about its other great attractions worth exploring which don’t involve getting wet, like its park.
Located about 10 minutes walk from the main train station, Beppu Park boast a wealth of natural wonders. In among its wide green open spaces, this park boasts an impressive bamboo forest along with over 700 pine trees providing a great escape away from the bustling city.
Although this park is a great place to visit anytime of the year, spring is a particularly good time to come and enjoy the colorful cherry blossoms
