Spring in Japan is often hyped up for cherry blossom season, but don't sleep on the plum blossom precursor, either! These beautiful trees bloom in many places across the country, and one popular spot to enjoy them in Osaka is at the Expo 70 Commemorative Park.

The park hosts an annual plum blossom festival when the trees are at their best (typically the early February to early March timeframe), and there are plenty of them to enjoy. The natural and cultural garden plum grove is home to around 600 plum trees in 120 varieties, and the Japanese garden plum grove has around 80 trees in 40 varieties.

You can get an idea of what to expect from the event via the video below. Please note the park is closed on Wednesdays if you plan on visiting.

Getting there

The Expo 70 Commemorative Park is located just a couple of minutes on foot from Banpaku-kinen-kōen Station, which is served by the Osaka Monorail line.
