Now on its 11th year, the halls of the Koma Old Traditional House serve as the backdrop of some of the grandest displays of ornamental dolls for the festival known as Hinamatsuri (Doll's Day or Girl's Day). This year, the red carpets are rolled out not only for the dolls but also for the visitors too.

While the royal dolls are the main attraction, my favorites are the ordinary dolls depicting everyday life.

Immerse yourself the atmosphere of old Japan during this festive period which also coincides with early spring. This year, the bright yellow nanohana (rapeseed flowers) are already in bloom along the front walls of the old house.

Admission is free.

Getting there

The Koma Old Traditional House is located along Saitama Prefectural Road 15 and if you come by car, free parking is available. The nearest station is Koma Station along the Seibu Chichibu Line. From the station, the Koma Old Traditional House is about a 15 minute downhill walk. Follow the signs pointing to Kinchakuda. The Koma Old Traditional House is on the other side of the road, across from 7-11.
