Estimated to have origins dating back to the Hoei Era (1704 – 1711), the Yono Summer Festival is held in Saitama Prefecture over two days in mid-July. The event includes a variety of ornate mikoshi (portable shrines) from local neighborhoods being paraded around the streets, along with traditional taiko drumming performances.

The event will be held rain or shine, and there is no admission fee to enjoy the fun – so be sure to stop by if you're in the area. In typical years there are numerous booths lining the street selling food and drinks, so bring some yen if you plan on making a purchase.

Getting there

The festival takes place around Yono Honmachi Street, which can be conveniently accessed in around five minutes on foot from Yono Honmachi Station (JR Saikyo Line) – take the West Exit.
