The Moomins are characters in a cartoon series developed by Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson, and they've become quite popular here in Japan. A special event at Shiga's Sagawa Art Museum looks at over 280 drawings and sketches of this much-loved troll family, many of which haven't been seen in Japan before.
After the event in Shiga, the exhibition will move on to Ibaraki Prefecture's Museum of Modern Art from mid-January to mid-March 2021.
Getting there
The Sagawa Art Museum is located 15 minutes by bus from Katata Station on the JR Kosei Line, or 30 minute by bus from the JR Moriyama Station (served by the Biwako line).
For those who plan to drive to the museum, it's located around 15 minutes from the Mano exit of the Kosei Highway, or 30 minutes drive from the Ritto Interchange of the Meishin Expressway. Free on-site parking is available for up to 70 vehicles.
