Irozaki

Cape Iro on the southernmost point of Izu peninsula

At the tippy-tip of Izu peninsula Irozaki (Cape Iro) juts out into the ocean, a small Shinto shrine built into the cliffside overlooking the blue water crashing onto the jagged rocks. There you can gaze out toward the Izu seven islands, scope out the squat white lighthouse guarding the point, and make an offering to the gods guarding their particular piece of the coast. In the summer, this place feels downright tropical with the bright gaudy flowers dotting the path and the insistent hum of birds and cicadas in the air.
