<p>The Izumiya is a short walk from Shin-Kambara Station.</p>

<p>There is no English spoken, but the staff is very friendly.</p>

<p>The front area of the first floor is a shop selling locally made foods and crafts.</p>

<p>I recommend that you purchase one of the lovely scarves that are made on the premises.</p>

<p>The cafe area seating is on tatami. If you plan to visit, be aware that they are closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and during the New Year's break.</p>

<p>There are three lunch choices: curry and rice, hayashi rice (hashed beef with rice), and chahan (Chinese fried rice); all are 500 yen. The curry was very tasty.</p>

<p>Drinks include coffee, tea, orange juice, and yakuzen-cha (herbal medicine tea); all 300 yen. There is also one dessert choice - oshiruko:  pounded rice balls in a sweet bean soup (400 yen).</p>

<p>Interesting antiques and weaving-related items are mixed among the clutter.</p>

Kanbara (or Kambara), the 15th post town from Edo along the old Tokaido Highway, retains some of its original atmosphere due to a collection of historical buildings that still remain intact. Originally a ryokan, the 180 year old Izumiya is now a combination of cafe, local goods & crafts shop, and a place where locals can practice traditional weaving techniques.

While in the area, be sure to visit, and tour, two local homes that have turned into museums. The Shida Residence and the former Igarashi Dental Clinic.
