Japan is home to some unique – dare we say, quirky – events throughout the year, and one in Shizuoka's Ito City certainly fits the bill in that regard. The Pillow Fight in Ito City started in 2013 as a way to bring visitors to this part of the country, and will take place over two days in February.
The fight takes place with teams of eight who battle it out against one another by throwing pillows, while futon comforters are used as makeshift shields. There is a registration fee of 5,000 JPY per team, and application documents can be found on the official press release here for anyone wanting to participate.
You can get a summary of the rules via the fun YouTube video below:
Getting there
The event takes place at the Ito Citizens Sports Center, which can be accessed in around 5 minutes by car from Kawana Station on the Izu Kyūkō Line.
