Spring in Japan brings countless cherry blossom spots, but the Hanamiyama Naruto Sakura Festival offers a particularly special experience. Held from late March through the first part of April, the event gives visitors rare access to a privately owned 20,000-square-meter hillside normally closed to the public outside the festival period.
Around 400 graceful weeping cherry trees fill the grounds, and with entry priced at just 300 JPY (free for elementary school children and younger) it's quite a budget-friendly way to enjoy the best of the blooms. Visitors can also grab a bite to eat or a souvenir from food trucks and merchandise stalls, while benches throughout the park offer scenic spots to sit and admire the blossoms.
What makes Hanamiyama especially memorable is its stunning coastal setting. From the hillside, visitors can take in sweeping views of the Onaruto Bridge, Awaji Island, and the Kii Channel, where the blue sea meets the pastel-pink blossoms. This contrast creates a breathtaking seasonal visual, blending ocean views with spring's most iconic blooms.
