Alright, I can already hear you guys groaning; “What, another cat café?” Well yes, but hear me out because this one’s a little different.

Ever since the hype of cat cafés came about, the reviews and pictures have just been pouring in. While cat cafés are widely available in Tokyo, after seeing a couple I conclude that more than some are run by people who are not exactly passionate about running the business, hence the place is usually more or less just “cat” and not so much “café” with their mediocre interior and unimpressive menus.

That’s not the case for Monta and honestly, this is the prettiest cat café I’ve been to so far. The thing I love most about Monta is the amount of natural light that comes into the café – it just brightens up the whole place. The splashes of red and blues in there make the café look very aesthetically pleasing so any pictures taken here (which I’m sure there will be many) will surely look good.

After you take off your shoes, slip into some house slippers and step inside, you’ll be shown to your seat (just a place to put your drinks or food if you order any as you’re free to move around in the café). Then you’ll be given a menu which adorably has all the names, type of breed and pictures of the cats you see in the café, with the drinks and food options at the back.

It’s also a lot bigger than the usual cat cafés that you’re used to in Tokyo. The place feels cosy but very airy at the same time. By having such a big place, both you and the cats can move around freely and comfortably. Speaking of cats, the cats here are so beautiful! Most of them are big, fluffy, elegant and not to mention, so soft to the touch! There are altogether 8 cats in the café at the moment.

The food and drinks menu here is very extensive. Hot kitchen food such as pastas and fried chicken are available and desserts such as pancakes, cheesecakes and affogato are available as well. For drinks you have the usual coffee and tea, but if you’re in the mood for a beer they have that too. You can check the pricing by clicking on the official website link on the right.

What can I say; it’s just a beautiful place with beautiful cats. If you love cats and you’re looking for some feline company, I don’t see why you shouldn’t come here. If you’re still on the fence, just know that Monta is only a minutes’ walk away from Asakusa Station! Just look for Yoshinoya and you’ll be on your way up to Monta the eighth floor to get in touch with your feline side.
