I loved walking through this path lined on both sides by trees and statues wearing red caps. There is a very spiritual and peaceful feel to this place. (Photo: Adeline Ong)

Hiking Mt. Takao, Hachioji, Tokyo

Enjoying the sights and smells on Mount Takao

Mount Takao, located within a protected national park, is situated near Tokyo and easily accessible by train.  There are multiple hiking trails, a cable car, and chair lift traversing up and down the mountain.  The hiking trails take you through tree-lined paths and past Buddhist statues and temples.  The color-changing leaves are beautiful if you go in the fall.  Near the top of Mount Takao, there are amazing views of Mount Fuji and Tokyo.  The hikes vary in difficulty level and can be as strenuous or relaxing as you would like as there are many things to see.
