To welcome in the new year, Tokyo's Happo-en Garden will be hosting an illumination event titled "Tokyo Blue." The 400 year-old garden will be bathed in blue lights from sunset until 9pm during the event dates, evoking feelings of wintery ice and clean, crisp air.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the event, visitors can also enjoy the Shirokane Yokocho which can be found at the Happo-en chapel lobby (B1 floor). Various sake types, original blue cocktails, and warming oden (a popular winter hot pot style dish) will be available from 4pm until 8.30pm (last orders taken at 8.15pm).
Admission to the illuminations is free, but bring yen if you plan on purchasing eats or drinks at Shirokane Yokocho.
Getting there
Happo-en is located just a minute on foot from Shirokanedai Station's Exit 2. The station is served by the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line and the Toei Subway Mita Line.
