Sorinji Temple was founded 1,200 years ago and is home to the oldest garden in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Sorinji Temple Garden, known as Ryushintei, features a combination of hills, stone arrangements, and two ponds designed in the early Muromachi style. This style is influenced by Zen Buddhism and serves as a meditative space.
Two sets of stone arrangements were built based on the typical design in the Nanboku-cho era. Todomariishi and Higatayo invite viewers to stop, rest, and meditate. In each arrangement, you can absorb the surrounding landscape or appreciate the raked sand and gravel, resembling the look of rippling water or tidal flats.
Whether it is in stunning autumn foliage, encircled by the voice of birds, or on a clear and sunny day, Sorinji Temple Garden invites you for a moment of introspection. With the perfect blend of nature and contemplation, Sorin-ji Temple Garden serves as a symbol of Ube City’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
