Winter evenings in Matsuyama take on a magical feel with the return of Hikari no Mi, a participatory light art event held at Dogo Park. Running from December 19th, 2025 to January 18th, 2026, this seasonal installation invites visitors to experience Dogo's quieter, more intimate side after sunset.

Created by Kyoto-based artist Kyota Takahashi, Hikari no Mi transforms trees throughout the park with thousands of softly glowing "fruits." These are hand-drawn fruit bags, illustrated with smiling faces of loved ones by local children, residents, and travelers, then lit from within using LED lights. As night falls, the park fills with a colorful glow.

Originally launched in 2014 as part of the Dogo Onsen Art Project's anniversary celebrations, the event has since become a winter tradition. For inbound travelers, it offers an easy, free way to engage with the local community while enjoying a peaceful evening walk just steps from Japan's oldest onsen. It's especially appealing for families, couples, and anyone looking to slow down and soak up Dogo's atmosphere beyond the bathhouse.

Getting there

Dogo Park is located right next to Dogo Park Station on the city tram.
