Surreal Fukiware Falls in Numata

River gorge carved into fantastic shapes

On a recent road trip through Gunma we stopped at Fukiware Falls. This river gorge has been shaped into a surreal vista of massive rock cliffs and holes in the riverbed, due to the mixed geological composition of the rock. It was very impressive. There is a trail that circumnavigates the gorge, crossing the river at two points, so that you can enjoy the scenery from every angle.
