The Onuma Hakodate Snow and Ice Festival is an annual event that takes place on the first weekend of February.
Held just outside Hakodate at Onuma Quasi National Park, around sixty snow sculptures akin to those found in Sapporo can be viewed on the shores of the frozen lake. A main feature of the event is the giant ice slide made using lake water that visitors can zip down – no sled necessary! Ice carving and an assortment of other winter-related games and activities can be enjoyed during the two-day event.
