About 40 kinds of trees from North America are planted in a 2.5 hectare space. The autumn foliage here is my favorite! (Photo: Masayoshi Hirose)

This 'Seattle Wood' is not located in America, but in Kobe Municipal Arboretum!

In the Kobe Municipal Arboretum, there are plantings of trees from sister cities and friendship cities affiliated with Kobe City. In some cases, there is also architecture symbolizing a particular city. This photo story introduces the 'Seattle Wood' which I visited in November, 2011. This forest is located in the center of this arboretum, on the south-side hill of Hase Pond. When the afternoon sun shines on this hill, all the autumn leaves glow. The dazzling sight makes you feel like you are looking at a gorgeous Japanese brocade painting!
