Held in mid to late April since 1992, the Tanto Tulip Festival showcases the beauty of around a million tulips in approximately 300 varieties.
What makes this festival unique is that it's more than just rows and rows of flowers – they do annual displays of "tulip art", where pictures are depicted in the tulip fields. The tulip art at previous festivals has included Astro Boy, Anpanman, Hello Kitty, and Crayon Shin-chan to name just a handful.
Visitors can also purchase potted tulips to replant at home, or pick ready-grown tulips.
Admission to the festival is ¥ 800 for adults, and free for high school students and younger. The exact dates will be announced on the official website in late March.
Getting there
The Tanto Tulip Festival takes place at the Hatayama Tanto Flower Park, located about 40 minutes drive from Ebara Station (JR Sanin Main Line).
For those using public transport, take the Zentan Bus bound for Izushi from Ebara Station. Get off at Izushi and transfer to the Zentan Bus bound for Okufuji for about 15 minutes until you reach Tanto.
