Each year, the travel site TripAdvisor releases the results of their Travelers' Choice awards, which come in various categories including the world's best beaches, restaurants, national parks, and hotels. For 2021, Kyoto's Ace Hotel was listed as one of the hottest new hotels, and it was lauded for several reasons. Almost all of the reviews on TripAdvisor have received five stars, and some of the reviewers made comments like these:
“So much attention to detail, from the eclectic vinyl music curation in the rooms (each with their own turntable!) to the commendable no-plastic initiatives.”
"Ace Hotel Kyoto is a fantastic hotel. They accept pets, and that's not easy to find here in Japan. I really wish other hotels all over the country will follow suit. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly all the time, when we left, we were already planning out next visit to Kyoto and Ace."
"Amazing visit to the Ace hotel. An ambience that feels stylish, elegant, and innovative, yet with a tint of locality."
The stylish nature of the accommodation was no accident - it was a collaborative effort between world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma and the Los Angeles-based Commune Design studio. Mixing elements of both Japanese and Western design, the hotel incorporates features like tatami flooring, washi paper, and woven bamboo into their decor. There are also original artworks displayed in each room from local artists.
For those wishing to stay at the hotel in the future, reservations can be made via the hotel website. Check in is at 3 pm, and check out is at 12 noon.
