Nature, Fire and the meditation of pottery making

I went to Uzuki Pottery and Cooking Class last year, but it is only now when it dawned on me that the two are very connected.

The sense of meditation, the slow hands on feel of making dough and pottery is something that I would remember for days and weeks afterwards. Situated in a humble yet elegant home near the Kyoto University of Art and Design, this peaceful space is a conversation between man and nature, one that is unpredictable, and yet a source of meditation. Shigeru Hirayama offers small group and private lessons which is a highlight for artisans and nature lovers alike.

Getting there

The Gallery and Pottery Studio is about half a hour by bus north east of Kyoto Station. You should contact the studio directly for opening hours and exact directions.
