Uji River in Summer

<p>This old suspension bridge has nothing on the other side</p>

<p>Behind Amagase Dam there is a long narrow lake</p>

<p>A glimpse of a bridge swallowed up in summer growth</p>

<p>This looks so untouched, it could easily be New Zealand - but it's Japan</p>

<p>My bike leaning against the stone wall along the river bank at Uji</p>

One of the most beautiful rivers I have ever seen is the Uji River in Kyoto Prefecture. It flows into a long narrow lake created by the Amagase Dam, before descending past famous Byodo-in Temple to Uji City. In summer the banks are clothed in dense greenery which is reflected in the river's glassy surface. Near Uji there is a low stone wall along the bank opposite Byodo-in. From Uji Bridge up to Amagase Dam is about 3 kilometers.
