Nestled in the mountains of Nagano, Karuizawa stands as one of Japan's premier getaway destinations. Renowned for its cool climate, the town provides a refreshing escape from the summer heat – but it's an equally lovely spot during the winter months. If you're visiting the area at the tail end of this year, the first-ever Karuizawa Christmas Market is a great way to embrace the festive spirit.
Held at the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza, the market will include plenty of Christmas decor including illuminations and Christmas trees, along with Christmas inspired food, drinks, and merchandise for sale. It's an easy way to pick up some last-minute Christmas gifts for loved ones, or even some goodies for yourself!
Admission is free of charge, but bring yen if you plan on making purchases.
Getting there
Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is located just three minutes on foot from the south exit of Karuizawa Station, which is served by the Hokuriku Shinkansen and the Shinano Railway Line.
For those who opt to drive, the mall is around 15 minutes from the Usui Karuizawa IC on the Joshinetsu Expressway. On-site parking is available.
