In spring each year, Niigata's Kannonyama Park has numerous cherry blossom trees to enjoy, including several different varieties such as the Somei Yoshino and Yaezakura (also known as double sakura) types. The park also offers some spectacular views of the surrounding area, including Mount Sumon and Mount Agawa.

For those who can't make it to the park in time to catch the springtime cherry blossoms, never fear - there is plenty more floral beauty to appreciate in early summer. The grounds here are home to around 5000 hydrangea plants, providing an incredible pop of color during the rainy season.

The best dates to enjoy the cherry blossoms can fluctuate annually, but plan for around mid-April based on previous years.

Getting there

Niigata's Kannonyama Park is located approximately 10 minutes by taxi from the JR Mitsuke Station, which is served by the Shinetsu Main Line. For those planning to drive, do note that there's only minimal parking on site (10 vehicles).
