Cafe Nichigetsudo

Dishing up wood furnace baked artisan bread

Somewhere along the picturesque road on the way to Chichibu from Hidaka is a cozy nook of a stop called Cafe Nichigetsudo (カフェ日月堂). The warm brown of the all-wood house surrounded by greenery makes for an inviting combination.

Right beside the cafe is a separate hut with a wood furnace where bread is lovingly crafted and freshly baked using natural yeast. The steps lead up to a spacious deck with a view of the Koma River. On good weather days, this is the best place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a hearty meal, serenaded by the soothing gush of the water.

A huge iron stove heats up the cafe's interiors in the winter. Menu is pretty simple: sandwiches, pizzas (only available on the weekends and holidays and in limited supply), and a dry curry rice dish (but you really ought to order something with their homemade bread!). All other ingredients like fresh vegetables, meat and fish are sourced locally.

Come and take a break for your body and soul.

Getting there

It is a 13 minute walk from Koma Station (along the Seibu Chichibu Line). A lot of visitors come by car. Parking spots are available.
