There are many places to enjoy the best of wisteria season in Japan, including Shizuoka's Rengeji-ike Park. The park is home to approximately 250 wisteria trees in 20 different varieties, and when they are at their best the grounds are transformed into an ethereal wonderland of cascading purple blooms.
An annual wisteria festival takes place at the park in celebration of the flowers, and it has been running for an impressive 40 years now. Along with the floral wonder to appreciate, the event also includes sales of local products, cultural performances, and more.
There is no admission fee to enjoy the festival, so if you're in the area be sure to check it out.
Getting there
Rengeji-ike Park is located under 15 minutes by taxi from Fujieda Station, which is served by the Tokaido Main Line.
For those who opt to drive, on-site parking is available for up to 500 vehicles.
