Fleeting Spring Magic at Ondagawa

Cherry blossoms transform a city river in Machida

<p>The Onda River is not usually so attractive, but surely this is its moment of glory!</p>

<p>The blue sky and pale pink blossom are reflected in the shallow water</p>

<p>Vigorous branches thrust pastel blooms into the clear sky</p>

<p>A pair of ducks ignoring the tourists</p>

<p>There are paths on both sides of the river to walk beneath the cherry trees</p>

<p>Blossoms blooming directly from the tree trunk</p>

<p>Where the river narrows, the trees hold hands in a dignified parade of beauty</p>

<p>Blossom-laden branches hang over the water</p>

<p>People stop at the bridges to look along the cherry tree-lined river</p>

<p>People walking the river path and enjoying the perfect spring weather</p>

The Ondagawa flows through Machida City, and during most of the year it is a quiet shady place to enjoy the river paths, but I don't find it all that attractive. However 400 cherry trees planted along 2 kilometers of the river transform this place into a pale pink heaven as they bloom in spring. Local people and visitors alike are drawn into the enchantment as they wander along the paths in the spring sunshine. There are only a few places to spread picnic mats, but if you prefer a strolling hanami, it's perfect!
