For travelers who grew up battling, trading, or collecting Pokémon cards, Tokyo's electric district just gained a must-visit destination. Japan's largest Pokémon card specialty store, Hareruya 2 Akihabara Tower Store, has officially opened, drawing crowds from day one and quickly establishing itself as a new pilgrimage site for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Designed as a space where visitors can fully experience the world of Pokémon cards, the multi-level flagship goes far beyond a typical card shop. Operated by trading card specialist Hareruya, the store reflects the explosive global growth of the Pokémon card market, which has evolved from a childhood hobby into a thriving collector culture with worldwide appeal.
The store's design makes an immediate impression. At its center stands the industry's first octagonal rotating display, a striking feature inspired by a shape that symbolizes harmony and prosperity in Japanese culture. Overhead, a dramatic golden chandelier displays real Pokémon cards encased in protective holders, turning treasured collectibles into a centerpiece of the space. The building's exterior also catches the eye, with colorful window panels inspired by the game's Basic Energy cards and a large LED display that adds to its presence in Akihabara's streets.
Inside, visitors will find an enormous selection of cards, decks, and Pokémon-related merchandise presented in easy-to-browse displays. Dedicated purchase counters offer professional card appraisal and buying services, while one of the store's biggest highlights is its massive play area with more than 150 seats. Here, travelers and local players alike can battle, trade, and connect over a shared passion.
The experience even extends beyond what you can see. Each floor features a custom scent designed to enhance the atmosphere, creating an immersive environment from the moment you step inside.
