Koishikawa Botanical Gardens

Tokyo's forest

The representative intersections swarming with pedestrians, and the neon lights that glow brightly paint Tokyo as a vibrant metropolis - one that seems to leave little room for some greenery. Hold that thought, because ancient trees and various other forms of botanical life thrive in a botanical garden at the heart of Tokyo. The Koishikawa Botanical Gardens located in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo is run by the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Science and is home to perhaps the widest variety of plants - from a 150 year old tree to species that are often referred to as living fossils. Amazingly, you will feel as though you are in a mountainous, forest area. So if you have had enough of the Tokyo concrete jungle, the Koishiwa Botanical Gardens may be a place of interest for you!
