Visitors to Tokyo Skytree Town can look forward to a lively and family-friendly Setsubun celebration with the return of the Tokyo Solamachi Setsubun Bean Throwing event. Held at Solamachi Square on the first floor of Tokyo Skytree Town, this seasonal tradition combines Japanese culture, entertainment, and a touch of fun competition.

The highlight of the event is the participation of sumo wrestlers from the Naruto stable, who will lead the bean-throwing ceremony alongside Sorakara-chan, the official mascot of Tokyo Skytree, and Oshinari-kun, the mascot of the nearby Oshinari shopping district. During the ceremony, guests can catch special bags of Setsubun beans that contain lottery tickets, which can be exchanged for sweets—adding an extra layer of excitement for both children and adults.

The event is hosted by rakugo performer Sanyutei Rakusho, with English-language explanations provided by Swedish rakugo performer Sanyutei Kouseinen. This bilingual hosting makes the experience especially welcoming for international visitors who want to learn more about Setsubun, a traditional Japanese festival held to welcome good fortune and mark the change of seasons.

The bean-throwing will take place twice each day, with the short sessions lasting around 20 minutes each. While the event may be cancelled in the case of rain, clear days promise a festive atmosphere right at the foot of one of Tokyo's most recognizable towers.

Getting there

Tokyo Solamachi has direct connectivity to Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Skytree Line.
