In 2025, Tokyo will make history by hosting the 25th edition of the Deaflympics, marking the first time the event will be held in Japan. Scheduled from November 15th to 26th, this year’s Games will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics, which first took place in Paris in 1924.

The event promises to be a remarkable celebration of athleticism, as approximately 6,000 participants from around 70 to 80 countries compete in a wide range of sports—everything from athletics and badminton to volleyball and wrestling. The Games are known for their unique visual communication methods, utilizing starting lights, flags, and International Sign Language to ensure accessibility for all participants.

To compete in the Deaflympics, athletes must meet strict criteria, including a minimum hearing loss of 55 decibels in their better ear without hearing aids, and must also be registered with their country's National Deaf Sports Federation.

The event's vision is to connect people through the excellence of deaf sports, promote inclusivity, and bridge Tokyo’s Deaflympics to the global community. The Games will be hosted across 21 venues, including iconic sites like the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium and the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. The Games will showcase the talents of deaf athletes and highlight the importance of an inclusive society, where everyone can excel and celebrate their individuality.
