Widely regarded as one of the most famous names in Western art history, Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) is still revered to this day for his works including The Starry Night and Sunflowers. A special event coming to Tokyo this autumn will explore Van Gogh's place in Europe's still-life painting realm, covering what Van Gogh learned from his predecessors, how this was reflected in his own works, and how he influenced the next generations of artists.
The exhibition will also include an area that focuses on sunflowers, introducing works by Van Gogh and other artists that depict the cheerful blooms and investigating what inspired the subject matter.
