The Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture is known for its rich cultural identity, but it also has some spectacular natural beauty as well. My favorite is a coastal drive down route 59 just as the sun begins to set on the Sea of Japan. Stunning vistas of rocky coastlines and breath taking horizons stretch from east to west. While you travel to Oga to partake in the rich Namahage culture of the region be sure to stay long enough to witness the amazing seaside sunsets. Oga can be accessed by car or train, about an hour drive from Akita City in Akita prefecture.
