The island can be reached via ferry from Takamatsu but also from the more popular Himeji or Okayama - so it is perfect for a day trip. You can explore so many things on Shodoshima: a monkey park with wild monkeys, beautiful beaches, interesting art installations, a huge olive park with a greek windmill and terraced rice fields. There is also a movie village related to the popular 1954 movie "24 Eyes" - even if you have not seen the film adaptations, you will feel set back into the old times and explore the village like a time traveler. You can enter an old school building, enjoy a perfect sea panorama and eat soy sauce ice cream before you explore the other wonders of the island.
