The Sendai International Center is located between Sendai City Museum and Tohoku University, and is within comfortable walking distance of both destinations. Since 1991 the Center has hosted all sorts of international events, often connected to the fields of science and technology. In 2015, a spacious convention center was added to enlarge the Center’s amenities, including facilities such as simultaneous interpretation in up to 6 languages. You'll find food and drinks available at the on-site restaurant, and at the Kyoryu Corner (the word kyoryu meaning exchange or share) you can find a lot of useful information for your travels in the region.
I visited Sendai International Center Station for one reason – I wanted to see the photo exhibition dedicated to the Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu. It was exhibited on the first floor of the Sendai International Center Subway Station and was free of charge. The big photos of Yuzuru were really impressive! New photo books of Yuzuru Hanyu could also be purchased at the exhibition. As Yuzuru is Sendai’s hometown hero, exhibitions like this are organized quite often. The Yuzuru Hanyu event has ended.
Additionally, near the South Exit of the International Center Subway Station there are three memorial plaques for Sendai's Olympic Champions in figure skating – Shizuka Arakawa (2006) and Yuzuru Hanyu (2014, 2018). Many fans of Yuzuru came to see it as I did!
Getting there
Sendai International Center is approximately a 4 minute walk from the International Center Station on the Tozai Line. The center can also be reached via the Sendai Loople Bus on either stop #5 or #10.
