There are numerous sakura spots across Japan that are extremely well-known (and often crowded), but there are also plenty of hidden gems to be found. Tainai City in Niigata Prefecture falls into the latter category, but the Tainai Sakura Festival hopes to shine a light on this treasure of a blossom-appreciating destination.
Along with numerous cherry trees in bloom to enjoy at the event, there will also be stage performances, food vendors, and even a haunted house – something that you don't often see at other sakura festivals!
Please note that the hours for the event differ on each day. On the Saturday, the festival runs from 4pm until 9pm, and on the Sunday that extends to 9am until 2pm.
Getting there
The event takes place at the Tainai comprehensive ground athletics field, which is located around 5 minutes by car or just under 30 minutes on foot from Nakajo Station (Uetsu Main Line).
