Illumination events are a staple over the colder months in Japan, and the annual Saga Light Fantasy event is a popular one on the Kyushu winter calendar -- it has been running for over thirty years now. A number of spots along Chuo Odori are covered in thousands of sparkling LED lights, creating a magical, dreamlike scene for visitors to enjoy. There is typically an opening parade at the start of the event, but it was canceled this year to prevent against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The lights are turned on from 5 pm until midnight each night during the free event, so if you're in the area be sure to stop by and appreciate the beauty!
Getting there
The Saga Light Fantasy event takes place at various spots along Chuo Odori, which can be directly accessed from the JR Saga Station, served by the Nagasaki Main Line.
For those planning to drive, there are a number of paid parking lots in the surrounding streets.
