I bought a chicken doner kebab with mix sauce (hot and mild)—it was a bit on the hot side, as I found myself pouring more than one glass of water. Nonetheless, it was absolutely worth it.

Simple decor, seating for about 20 and a Turkish news channel played quietly in the background

Kebab Box, this one's just off of Harajuku Street on Meiji Dori, is geared more toward the take-out customer, but there is seating for 8 near the kitchen

I ordered the same as at Kader Kebab—chicken with the mix sauce—and this time the taste was a bit milder than before

Thin pieces of tender carved meat with crispy shredded cabbage and a tangy red sauce, all tucked away in a warm pita: doner kebabs have made a strong mark in Japan. Typically found in areas where foreigners might be most frequent—such as Route 319 in Roppongi or just off Harajuku Street in Shibuya—this Turkish delight is a cheap (only ¥500) and tasty alternative if you’ve had your fill of Japanese food.
