Venue : Ueno Park When : Mid Aug 2024

Japan has a rich and diverse world of alcoholic beverages, and for those who enjoy sweet and tart flavor profiles, umeshu is a great choice. Made from steeping unripe ume fruits (also known as Japanese plums) in alcohol and sugar, the drink is delicious on its own or as an ingredient in cocktails.

If you're already a fan of umeshu – or you'd like to learn more about it – the National Plum Wine Festival in Tokyo is an event that you shouldn't miss. It's set to include over 170 types of umeshu made by sake breweries all over Japan, and attendees can compare and contrast different samples to find their favorites. There will also be sales of full bottles for anyone who finds something they're really fond of.

Please note that the operating hours for the festival differ on each day:

  • August 10 (Thursday) 15:00 to 20:00
  • August 11 (Friday / holiday) 11:00 to 20:00
  • August 12 (Saturday) 11:00 to 20:00
  • August 13 (Sunday) 11:00 to 18:00

Getting there

The event takes place at Ueno Park's Fountain Square, which can be accessed in under 10 minutes on foot from JR Ueno Station's Park Exit.
