Vegans in Japan may have already heard of Ovgo Baker, with one store located in Tokyo's Nihonbashi area and another one further afield in the Nagano resort town of Karuizawa. Come March 1st there will be a third location opening at Harajuku's Laforet Mall, allowing plant-based eaters to get their sweet fix without the use of animal products like eggs, milk, or butter.

Fun fact: the business name is actually an acronym, and stands for Organic, Vegan, Gluten-free Options.

The menu at Ovgo Baker is inspired by American desserts, and they have an impressive lineup of cookies and other sweets available for patrons to enjoy. Cookie flavors like red velvet crinkle, snickerdoodle, and the classic chocolate chip are just some of the mouthwatering options available, and several of them (oatmeal-based varieties) are also gluten-free. At the Harajuku store, there will also be the opportunity to have your cookie of choice served up as a cookie sundae with soy ice cream and whipped cream.

For those who like to support their favorite brands by purchasing merchandise, you can also pick up Ovgo Baker raglan t shirts, hoodies, tote bags, and reusable Stojo brand cups.

Don't live close to Tokyo or Karuizawa? No problem! Cookies and merchandise can be ordered online via their website, and shipped across Japan. You can also follow them on Instagram for business updates here.

Getting there

The Laforet Harajuku mall is located just a minute on foot from Meijijingumae Station's Exit 5. The station is served by the Tokyo Metro's Chiyoda Line and Fukutoshin Line.

For JR users, head to Harajuku Station (Yamanote Line) and the venue is around 5 minutes away on foot.

Parking is available on-site for those who opt to drive, and is charged at a rate of ¥ 400 per 30 minute increment.
