What are some characteristics you look for in a date night restaurant? Most of us would likely pick some combination of great food, a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and romantic lighting. When I lived in the Tokyo suburbs, one of my favorite places for a date night meal was Un Quinto, an Italian restaurant which is located just across from Yokota Air Base in Fussa.

From the outside, Un Quinto doesn't look like much, but don't that deter you. It's located in what used to be military housing, but that provides a unique, rustic charm that you can't find at other Italian restaurants in the area. Once you head inside, you'll see a variety of sharpie signatures over the walls from past patrons, plus enough seats to host just under 20 people – there are some additional tables out on the patio area if you'd rather sit outside.

As for the menu, there are different options for lunch and dinner sittings, with the lunch options providing some great value for money. During lunch hours you can make your pasta of choice into a set meal for an extra ¥ 380, which includes salad, bread, and a drink – I personally like their spaghetti arrabbiata best from their lunch choices. The wider dinner menu includes other options like risottos, meat dishes including stewed beef cheeks and chicken diavolo, and salads to name just a few.

The menu also includes English language descriptions, making it easy for travelers to the area who may not read Japanese.

Getting there

Un Quinto is located directly across from the Yokota Air Base Fussa Gate (Main Gate). Alternatively, the restaurant is just under fifteen minutes on foot from Fussa Station (JR Ome Line) or just seven minutes on foot from Higashi-Fussa Station (JR Hachiko Line).

For those who opt to drive, there is a small parking lot behind the venue.
