During the month of June, visitors can experience the blooming of around 100,000 hydrangeas across a two-hectare stretch of parkland at the Maizuru Nature and Cultural Park in Kyoto. With roughly 100 different varieties on display, the venue offers a vivid array of blue, purple, pink, and white flowers, which are especially striking when glistening with rain.

The park was developed on the grounds of the former Nishitake Farm and is now a well-loved green space for both locals and tourists alike. Known for its seasonal displays, the park also features a camellia garden in spring and vibrant autumn foliage in November if you can't schedule a summertime visit.

In saying that, the hydrangea season is a highlight for many, offering visitors a chance to slow down and appreciate nature. Whether under a cloudy sky or shining in the sun, the flowers provide a serene setting for photography, walks with pets (yes, it's a pet-friendly venue!), or simply a bit of quiet reflection.

The park is open daily from 9am until 5pm, with last entry at 4pm. There is a small admission fee of 500 JPY for adults and 250 JPY for elementary and junior high school students, with discounts available for people with disabilities.

For more information, visit the Maizuru City website.
