Are you visiting Osaka any time soon? Interested in finding a good cafe/bar/restaurant in the city? Colors, located about 10 minutes from JR Osaka and Umeda train station, is a big, comfortable cafe/bar/restaurant under the train tracks and highway. If it doesn’t sound that interesting yet, let me tell you that the cafe has an all you can eat freshly baked bread buffet!

When it comes to cafes, I’ve always been interested in comfortable places with interesting concepts. Colors is inside Chelsea Market, a building that also houses a couple of other shops, and to be honest I wouldn’t have found it if I didn’t get a tip about it. Lunch is served every day until 15.00 pm and includes a main dish that changes daily and all you can eat salad and bread. Well, when I say bread I mean a large variety of different breads made from different ingredients. There are both savory as well as sweet breads to choose from. There is also a drink buffet where you can create your own drink from different fresh juices (orange, grapefruit, apple, mixed vegetables). The drink buffet also includes cold and hot coffee and tea.

The menu is written only in Japanese but don’t be afraid as there are illustrating images and the staff will do their best to help you. It includes pasta, burgers, sandwiches, salads and some delicious desserts. The combined lunch price (main dish, salad, bread and drink) is ¥1000 but if you wish to order something extra then the prices vary from ¥500 to ¥1400. The bread buffet is impressive. Served in cute baskets, different kinds of bread pieces are waiting for you to try them. I tried almost all and I even took a second serving from some of them! The ones you should definitely try are: the matcha bread, the whole grain bread, the tea bread and the bread with apples (something like apple pie but closer to a bread version). At night, Colors also serves dinner and works as a bar so feel free to pass by any time of the day!

The cafe's design is simple, with bright details and great music. I will definitely go back again!

Getting there

Colors Cafe is 10 minutes from JR Osaka Station (East exit) served by the JR Kobe/Kyoto Lines (Tokaido Main Line), the Osaka Loop Line and the JR Takarazuka Line. It can also be reached from Umeda Station which is withing walking distance of Osaka Station. Umeda Sstation is served by the Hankyu line, the Hanshin line and the Osaka Municipal Subway Midosuji Line.
