Mucha and America 2020-2021

The influence of America on Alphonse Mucha's work

Kim Bergström   - 1 min read
Venue : Sakai City Cultural Center When : Nov 14th 2020 - Mar 3rd 2021, 9:30am - 5:15pm

A special exhibition at the Sakai City Cultural Center looks at the works of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, particularly in relation to how America shaped his career. Mucha's first visit to America took place in 1904, and was primarily to raise funds to complete his art series The Slav Epic, a collection of 20 large canvas paintings depicting the mythology and history of Czechs and other Slavic peoples.

This special exhibition will showcase examples of Mucha's works during his time in America, and how his travels impacted his life and art.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 510 yen.

Getting there

The Sakai City Cultural Center is located around four minutes on foot from Sakaishi Station, served by the Hanwa Line.

For those planning to visit by car, there's no dedicated parking lot at the venue. Patrons are advised to park at the nearby Belle Marge Sakai Underground Parking Lot or the JR Sakai City Station No. 1 Parking Lot - both are paid lots.
