Arita is one of Japan's pottery heartlands, and there are numerous kilns in this part of the country that produce all kinds of ceramic goods. The Arita Autumn Ceramics Festival is designed to be an event where visitors can appreciate the charms of Arita in various ways – obviously, exploring Arita ware is one of them, but the historic townscape, food culture, and colorful autumn leaves add some additional incentives to visit!
If you won't be in Arita for the autumn ceramics fair, never fear – another event is held from late April through early May each year, during the Golden Week holiday period.
Getting there
Arita Station is served by the Sasebo Line and the Nishi-Kyushu Line. To help visitors explore the area, three free shuttle bus routes will operate during the festival dates – you can find more information regarding timetables and routes on the official event website.
