The town of Ajiro in Shizuoka has prospered as a port town since the Edo period, and is well regarded for its hot springs and seafood. The Ajiro Onsen Dried Fish Festival celebrates this, with around 3000 pieces of horse mackerel to be grilled and served to attendees for free on each day of the two-day event.
In addition, there will be items available for purchase including farm-fresh veggies, grilled clams, salted squid, yakisoba, clam rice, various soups made with local ingredients, and a host of handicrafts.
Please note the free fish is first come, first served, so it's recommended to get there early in the day.
Getting there
The event takes place at Umieru Nagahama (うみえーる長浜), which is located within Nagahama Seaside Park. The venue can be accessed in around 10 minutes on foot from Izu-Taga Station on the JR Ito Line.
For those who opt to drive, on-site parking is available.
