The thing about pancakes is you either like them or you love them – they’re possibly one of the most loved foods around and I'm no exception because I definitely love me some pancakes!
Now imagine this – it’s early in the morning, the sun is shining and you’re sipping on a fresh warm cup of coffee. The waiter then serves you the perfect pancakes – fluffy and warm and unusually thick, while you look out the window to a nice view of Shibuya Crossing. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Well good news for you, you can have it all at Hoshino Coffee! This café is known for serving their soufflé style pancakes, which are super thick and fluffy.
Since it was strawberry season when I visited, I ordered the double soufflé style pancakes with strawberry and fluffy whipped cream with Hoshino blended coffee that is hand dripped. Because they bake their soufflé fresh, it takes approximately 20 minutes for the pancakes to arrive. Let me just say that I’ve never been more excited to get my pancakes.
Our hand dripped coffee arrived first and it was pretty good but when the pancakes came I was in awe of how pretty the pancakes looked – it was so beautiful! For all the Instagram enthusiasts out there, you guys are going to love this place. Also, I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it was the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life; it was practically a pancake dream come true. It is exactly what you expect the perfect pancakes to taste like but better. They were warm, soft, chewy and a mouthful. The strawberries were sugar coated, the cream was smooth and there was even a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I lost track of how many times I drizzled maple syrup on my pancakes because it was just so so good. Now I’m just sitting here wishing that I could have it for breakfast tomorrow.
Just a heads up though, there’s only one spot in the restaurant that has a really good view of the Shibuya crossing so if you want that spot, you’d have to make sure you get there early and thank your lucky stars if you get the spot!
If it’s no longer strawberry season when you visit, I’m sure the other flavours – such as chocolate banana or the plain one – will taste just as good. It's also good to know that pancakes aren’t the only food that Hoshino Coffee serves; they also have soufflé cheesecake and French toast, plus a variety of savoury toasts and salad to go with the toast. If you’re in the mood for cake, you can simply go to the cake counter and choose whatever you desire.
As if all that I’ve mentioned wasn't enough to make you want to go there tomorrow, Hoshino Coffee is only a three-minute walk from Shibuya Station! Located on the second floor of the 109MEN’S building, your perfect breakfast/tea time awaits you!
