There are a myriad of bon odori events held across Japan during the summer months, and the Kamodai Bon Odori is a much-loved tradition held in the Sugamo area of Tokyo. The event is run by Taisho University and has taken place annually since 2011 to remember victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Along with the bon odori dancing to take part in, the event will include a variety of booths operated by student clubs at the university, along with food and beverage trucks. While admission to the event itself is free, bring along some yen if you plan on grabbing a bite to eat or drink.
Getting there
Taisho University is located an easy three minutes on foot from Nishi-Sugamo Station, which is served by the Toei Mita Line. Attendees are asked to utilize public transport when visiting, as there is no vehicle parking and only limited bicycle parking.
